Dr. Y.S.R Horticultural University - The Second Horticultural University in India

Dr. Y.S.R Horticultural University came into existence in the year 2007 under the supervision of the Government of Andhra Pradesh. It is nestled amid beautiful location at Venkataramannagudem in the veracity of Tedapalligudem in West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. It was established as the only second University in the country that provides courses in Horticultural stream. The State Government established Dr. Y.S.R Horticultural University with the purpose of increasing the production Horticulture in Andhra Pradesh because this place has been a pioneer in the production of chillies, sweet orange, papaya, turmeric, chillies, mango and oil palm. 

Dr. Y.S.R Horticultural University, Venkataramannagudem (Andhra Pradesh), imparts undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate programs in the field of Horticulture. In fact, the whole curriculum of these courses is prepared with a goal to make young aspirations of the country familiar with Horticulture via three sources - Education, Research and Latest Technologies. All these courses are offered to the students at the University's 4 Horticulture Polytechnics, 2 Horticultural Colleges, 2 Krishi Vigyan Kendras and 16 Research Stations in Andhra Pradesh. Not only the courses, the University also offers state-of-the-art infrastructure to its students, which comprised with boys and girls hostels, modern classrooms, library, laboratories and many more.

Courses Offered and their Admissions at Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University 


Dr. Y.S.R Horticultural University, Andhra Pradesh, offers undergraduate program in the stream of Horticulture in the shape of Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Horticulture. This course is imparted at Andhra University's area (Districts - Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, East Godavari, West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram) and at Horticulture College and Research Institute Ventakaramananagudem, West Godavari District. However, students are also received knowledge on Horticulture through these UG courses at S.V. University area that spread across Chittoor, Kurnool, Anantapur, Nellore and Kadapa district besides at Horticulture College and Research Institute, Anantharajupet, Kadapa District.

This UG course in Horticulture is available for only those candidates who have passed their 10+2 examination from the Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh or any other examination recognized by the University. Once they qualify for this course, they have to appear in an entrance test called EAMCET. Final merit list is prepared as per the candidates’ ranks in this entrance test along with their presidential order, location and social status. 

The University also provides Post Graduate course in the same field as Master of Science (M. Sc.) in Horticulture. It is a two-year program that is provided in the fields of fruit science, floriculture & landscape architecture, vegetable science and spices, plantation, medicinal and aromatic crops. The students can expand their knowledge on Horticulture through these PG courses at Horticulture College and Research Institute Ventakaramananagudem and Horticulture College and Research Institute, Anantharajupet. 

Apart from these UG and PG courses, Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University also conducts Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Horticulture. It completes in three years duration and it is offered at Horticulture College & Research Institute, Venkataramannagudem.

The educational knowledge of Horticulture at Dr. Y.S.R Horticultural University also spread towards two years Diploma in Horticulture. It is conducted at SKPP Horticulture Polytechnic Ramachandrapuram (East Godavari District), Horticulture Polytechnic Nuzvid (Krishna District), SSPG Horticulture Polytechnic Madakasira (Ananthapur District) and Horticulture Polytechnic Kalikiri (Chittoor District). Only those candidates can seek their admission to this course who have passed their 10th level of examination with at least 5.0 grade excluding Hindi. For SC/ST candidates, the minimum grade required is 4.0 and they should be studied in rural areas for minimum four years.
